In January 2001 concerned citizens gathered to discuss forming an association to preserve the covered bridges of Columbia County. Their purpose is simple: they recognized the historic importance of the covered bridges as a public treasure to be enjoyed and available to the public and the important part they play in tourism. Putting a non-profit association in place will protect all of our covered bridges not only for today, but also for future generations to come.

The group is comprised of members with one goal in mind - to restore, preserve and protect the covered bridges of Columbia County for historical and recreational purposes.

At present, the group is focusing on two bridges, namely the Josiah Hess Bridge on Huntington Creek and the Stillwater Bridge on Big Fishing Creek. (Click on names for their brief histories). The group feels the Association can work economically using volunteer help where ever possible . Preliminary work has already begun with an assessment of needed repairs being done. These bridges will be the first of the projects to be completed by the Columbia County Covered Bridges Association and will set the ground work for other bridges as they are acquired.

If you love covered bridges and want to help in their preservation we ask for your help in our endeavors through your donation or by becoming a member. By becoming a member, you will be able to participate and vote at all general meetings throughout the year. These meetings are held the first Monday of each month at the Columbia County Agricultural Center on Sawmill Road, Bloomsburg, PA. Summer meetings are held on the Josiah Hess Bridge (Map).
