Laubach (Welle Hess) Covered Bridge

The Laubach (Welle Hess) bridge no longer exists, this bridge over Fishing Creek was the second bridge on the site. The first bridge was destroyed by the flood of July, 1848. The second bridge dating from 1871, was built at a cost of $1,500, by Clinton and Montgomery Cole. It was extensively modified over the years with steel beams for much of the framework until the bridge collapsed on July 19, 1981. It was located in Sugarloaf Township on Route 4049 (Camp Lavigne Road) near Grassmere, about 1/2 mile off State Route 118. Some of the foundation walls are still visible. It was 126 ft. in length and 15 ft. wide being of the Burr Truss type.
